In all my business classes we always talk about Thomas L. Friedman book, The World is Flat. The book explains how globalization has made geographical distance and borders across countries something irrelevant. The world is flat because competitors all over the world now have the opportunity to participate in more and more markets. Likewise, people now have access to so many resources and so much information, that ignoring what happens internationally means staying behind. The world have always been interconnected, and globalization has allowed us to understand that connection on a deeper level.
I have always been interested in the world’s diversity; that is the reason why I chose International Business as my major when I transferred to Florida International University. When I saw the flyer of the Global Learning Medallion, I immediately knew this was an opportunity I couldn’t miss. Globalization has pros and cons, just like everything in life. However, this program allows students to focus on the positive aspects, and inspires them to take actions that would positively impact people around the world. As an international student, it can be challenging to find valuable opportunities outside campus. Through the Global Medallion program I was able to start an internship on campus, and learn about the career path I am interested.
My experience at Florida International University has been unforgettable, and the Global Medallion is definitely one of my highlights. FIU offers a great platform to learn about internationalization, and the Global Medallion makes the wonderful job of putting them all together and simplifying for the students. We are all global citizens; it is just a matter of respecting and embracing what makes all of us unique!
