Phi Theta Kappa

I had the opportunity to serve as the Communications and Media Director for Phi Theta Kappa, a national organization that recognizes and support excellence in 2-year institutions. During this time, I was able to work with a supportive team that allowed me to grow personally and professionally, and have an impact on the college and the community. With the help of my team, I was hosted an event called “Know your Rights”, which was a two-day panel about immigration and opportunities for students who weren’t born in the United States. Together, we also prepared an event in benefit of the Miami Dade County Foster and Adoptive Parent Associated, where we collected and donated school supplies, books, and toys to children in the foster system. This event was awarded at the Student Banquet as event of the year, and increase participation of our club members.

The Washington Center

I was selected to attend the Washington Center Seminar in January 2018. This year the topic was Inside Washington: Media and Politics, and we discussed several topics such as the influence of the current media landscape, gaps in U.S. policies, and government transparency. My biggest takeaway from this seminar was credibility. Just because your friends and family believe something doesn’t mean it is right. As individuals we have to have sound arguments taking into consideration different perspectives.

ALPFA Convention

As a transfer student at Florida International University, I wasn’t sure how to get involved in on-campus activities. That is why I joined ALPFA (Association of Latino Professionals of America), a business organization that empowers students to accomplish their professional goals. Because of my active participation, I was selected to attend the National Convention in Nashville, Tennessee. It was five-day conference packed with workshops and presentations about professional development, Latino empowerment, the influence of the Latino community in the United States.

Women’s Center Internship

I am currently an intern at the Women’s Center, a department at Florida International University dedicated to raise awareness about gender equality and inclusion. I am in charge of all the social media platforms, and also provide support in the planning and execution of the Women Who Lead Conference, their most anticipated event of the year. I am responsible for creating visual/written content, scheduling and posting on a regular basis about the events hosted by the Women’s Center or other university departments. This experience has been very valuable for me since I haven’t only learned about an area I am interested, which is Marketing, but also about women accomplishments and their continuous fight for equality.
